Peter Hillary & Sir Graham Henry To Lead Antarctica Expedition

Adventurer Peter Hillary, renowned tour hosts Sir Graham and Lady Raewyn Henry, and documentary creator Damon Gameau are set to lead an extraordinary expedition to Antarctica in March 2024.

This once-in-a-lifetime journey offers a unique focus on stewardship and aims to deepen participants' understanding of the challenges posed by climate change.

Antarctica, one of the most pristine and remote environments on Earth, is under significant threat due to climate change. Glacial melt and rising sea levels impact coastal communities and ecosystems worldwide. By experiencing Antarctica first-hand, participants will gain a profound appreciation for the immediate need for action.

Embarking on the state-of-the-art World Navigator, renowned for its cutting-edge technology, guests will get closer than ever to the awe-inspiring wonders of Antarctica. The ship's clean-burning hybrid electric-hydro propulsion and anchorless positioning systems make it one of the most environmentally friendly vessels at sea.

Exclusively chartered for New Zealanders and Australians, this expedition aligns with the peak whale watching season, offering abundant wildlife sightings and a remarkable encounter with nature.

Sir Graham and Lady Raewyn Henry are eagerly anticipating this unique opportunity to explore one of the planet's most extraordinary environments alongside fellow Kiwis.

Sir Graham Henry expressed his excitement, stating, "A trip to Antarctica is unlike anything we have experienced before. The breathtaking scenery and incredible wildlife promise to be mesmerising, but more importantly, serve as a timely reminder of our planet's vulnerability and the crucial need to protect and sustain it for the future. With knowledgeable and like-minded individuals, we can enhance our understanding of one of the world's greatest challenges."

For Peter Hillary, this expedition marks a significant milestone, being his 43rd visit to Antarctica. After a busy year honouring his father's legacy on the 70th anniversary of Sir Edmund Hillary's historic Mt Everest ascent, Peter is thrilled to embark on this unforgettable journey.

“In my experience, when people see Antarctica they become fierce ambassadors for not just Antarctica, but for wildlife, regeneration and sustainability,” he says.

Damon Gameau is an Australian actor, director, and producer, known for his documentaries That Sugar Film and 2040. 2040 is a hybrid feature documentary that looks at the very real possibility that humanity could reverse global warming and improve the lives of every living thing in the process. Damon is delighted to be part of this world-changing conversation

The March voyage emphasises immersive and purpose-led travel, offering more than just superficial experiences. It aims to be transformational, allowing participants to see the world through a new lens and inspire behaviour change. The expedition's pillars revolve around the ideas of immersion, transformation, and learning while travelling.

The expedition is organised by Wonder & Wander and Insider Expeditions in partnership with Fortis Events.

Don’t miss out on this incredible opportunity to explore one of the most remote and magical places on the planet in the company of some of New Zealand & Australia’s finest legends, and learn more about the need for climate change action.
